AFTER DEMOLITION?
EXHIBITION AND SYMPOSIUM ON NEW CONCEPTS FOR BERLIN’S SCHLOSSPLATZ AREA. 16 JULY – 26 AUGUST 2005, PALAST DER REPUBLIK, BERLIN
Urban Catalyst initiated a call for ideas for future visions for Berlin’s Schlossplatz area. 16 international teams were invited and their proposals were exhibited and documented in the Palast der Republik. A majority of the proposals addresses the specific history of the site as either a Palast (East Germany), Imperial Castle or as a hybrid Palast-Castle. Another group of proposals avoided any reference to previous history. The exhibition also included a history of the temporary use of the site since 1918, a conversation between Hans Ulrich Obrist and Cedric Price as well as a video lecture by Rem Koolhaas. The exhibition opening was accompanied by a symposium with, amongst others, Regina Bittner, Wilhelm von Boddien, Friedrich Dieckmann, Karl Hanser, Wolfgang Hirsch, Jürgen Meyer H, Wolfgang Kil, Bojana Pejic, Goerd Peschken, and Michael Rutschky.
